Today is the fifth day of advent. If you would like a devotional to take you through this period there is a free PDF download of John Piper's devotional book "The Dawning of Indestructible Joy" : http://www.desiringgod.org/books/the-dawning-of-indestructible-joy  (Copy and past into your browser) It's an excellent tool, recomended by Doug from our home fellowship.

DECEMBER 5
Why Christmas Happened
You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. . . . The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
1 JOHN 3:5, 8
Two times in 1 John 3:1–10 we are told why Christmas happened—that is, why the eternal, divine Son of God came into the world as human.
In verse 5, John says, "You know that he appeared to take away sins, and in him there is no sin." So the sinlessness of Christ is affirmed—"In him there is no sin." And the reason for his coming is affirmed—"He appeared in order to take away sins."
Then in the second part of verse 8, John says, "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil." And the specific focus John has in mind when he says "works of the devil" is the sin that the Devil promotes. We see
that in the first part of verse 8: "Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning." So the works of the Devil that Jesus came to destroy are the works of sin.
So two times John tells us that Christmas happened—the Son of God became human—to take away sin, or to destroy the works of the Devil, namely, sin. Jesus was born of a virgin by the Holy Spirit (Matt. 1:18–20) and "increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man" (Luke 2:52) and was perfectly obedient and sinless in all his life and ministry, all the way to the point of death, even death on a cross (Phil. 2:5–8; Heb. 4:15)—in order to destroy the works of the Devil—to take away sin.
Our sin. Make this personal and love him for it. Take the very personal words of the apostle Paul and make them your own. "The life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me" (Gal. 2:20). This is how he destroyed the works of the Devil and rescued us from our sin. Don't leave Christmas in the abstract. Your sin. Your conflict with the Devil. Your victory. He came for this.

News from the waldvogels, life & ministry, david' place for grade one; visa; persecuted Christians

Dear Friends,

We greet you from hot Zimbabwe!

The summer has really hit here now and we are sweating!

Otherwise we are all well and are praising God for our life & ministry here!

We've had a constant flow of visitors from august until now, it was great to have so many here, and now we're enjoying just being family for a change.

David loves going to pre-school and his place for "big school" remains a prayer item. It would be so good if he could get into Springvale House were Martin is also teaching.

Joshua is very daring but the two of them slowly learn how to play with each other without too much damage. Josh was down for a circumcision since his for skin seemed too tight but thankfully it sorted itself and he does not need the op. Praise the Lord!

The ministry in the schools and in the orphanage really fills us out and we are thankful that we can be here with God's appointment & power.

Silke is leading the ladies bible study at the moment with the very helpful theme    "Boundaries when to say "yes" , how to say "no"      here's the web page to it:                                                        http://www.cloudtownsend.com/

The two Authors Townsend & Cloud really have something to say – check it out. . With principles from the Bible and Bible verses they show how you can put down heathy boundaries for yourself and for others.

Our house church is going through the exciting phase of appointing elders and deacons, please pray for this important development. Pray that God will give wisdom and guide through His spirit and that  from God appointed people will step forward and be willing to serve.

Our orphanage has asked me to joining the committee, please pray that God again will give wisdom there since I'm not such a great organizer or committee sitter...(until now I did not even know how to spell committee...

The other big prayer request at the moment is our visa renewal. Our present visa runs out February next year. We have to apply round about now for a residents permit. Please pray for the application and that by God's will we will be granted the permit.

Again: we are so grateful to God that we can be here & for everything the Lord guides us into and through!

Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in northern Iraq, Syria, Nigeria and around the globe who are paying the ultimate price for following our Lord Jesus. Pray for strength and that God will help them through these terrible persecutions.  Do pray for the ISIS guys as well, that God will show himself to them that they will see the truth and find Jesus as their savior to.

God's rich blessing with Psalm 119.79 – God's word so good for us!!!

In Jesus' name,

Your 4  Waldvogels

Ps. Alec Cobb who for years graciously and faithfully has done our web page (thanks so much for it!!!) , would like to pass it on to someone else. Anyone would like to help us with that?
